![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe take it to the Apple geniuses, maybe reinstall the OS from scratch yourself, but get it to boot up. You cannot restore using Backblaze until your computer boots. Ģ) Get your existing computer to boot up. You need to get the Operating System from the manufacturer (Apple), you really do, backups won't help you recover an Operating System. Even if Backblaze had backed up your operating system, the M1 ARM based Macintosh CANNOT RUN IT. This means it would have been USELESS for Backblaze to backup the Operating System, right? And here is the most obvious fact to drive this point home: the new computer will be an M1 ARM based Macintosh, and your old system was an Intel based Macintosh. It will come with a working Operating System that boots already. For example, if you had 30 day version history and need a previous version of the file from 20 days ago, if you procrastinate 11 days the data becomes unrecoverable, make sense? So go do this!!Ģ) Purchase a new computer from Apple if your computer is no longer physically there at all (like if it was stolen). The reason we want you to do this quickly is there are several "timers" that just started, and if there are any issues we can fix them, but only if we have time. This can be done even if your laptop isn't working, use the web browser on your phone to order it if you have to, but get this step done RIGHT AWAY. This is free if you return the hard drive to Backblaze later. Do not skip this step, and don't procrastinate. What this means is that to restore a system that was stolen or crashed completely the procedure goes like this:ġ) This is very important - go and order a USB hard drive restore from the Backblaze website with all of your data to be shipped to your home. I’m just wondering, for anyone whose had to restore a hard drive with a Backblaze backup, what did it not restore?Īt a high level: your bootable operating system and application executables were not backed up. Disclaimer: I work at Backblaze and wrote a lot of the Exclusions code.
